Congratulations to Max Shinsky who battled it out with Luke Abbott on Sunday 15 March, winning 2 and 1 on the 16th, to lift the coveted, Trevor Morrison, Junior Matchplay Trophy.  The trophy is named after Life Member, Trevor Morrison who was instrumental in growing junior golf at MGC in the early 2000’s. 

This event is singles, handicap knockout matchplay with all matches to be organised by the golfers and played by the published competition dates.

Congratulations to Max! We hope to see you all again for the 2026 championship.

Congratulations Arman Nathoo on winning the Jag lawyers, 5th hole NTP today

Exciting day for MGC member, Arman Nathoo who holed his tee shot on the 5th hole today to claim his very first Ace!

A well struck 9 iron rolled into the cup and the celebrations began!

Arman is also celebrating his 30th birthday today and was enjoying a round with his mum and dad when it happened. What a fantastic way to spend your birthday!

Well done Arman!

Thanks to Arman”s skill, the members are now enjoying a complimentary @tar.barrel Cheviot Whiskey in the bar all day! 🏌🏽‍♂️⛳️

Report Rnd 3 and Pennant Team Rnd 4

Last week we got to host the Pennant matches at MGC and the feedback was awesome from all. It was great to see our curators had the course looking superb. A special shout out to Andy Burgess who charged around in the wee hours of the morning cutting the greens and changing pin positions. And thanks to those who came out to support “The Boys from Bushwood” on our home track. Everyone was very grateful. 

Unfortunately for us the scene was set, but we came up shy again losing to a strong National team. Awesome to see some impressive golf from Lingy and Jason Taylor getting up and Shirlz halving a match. 

We’ve had a tough start coming up against the strongest teams first. In the 21 rubbers played so far, we’ve played against (9 plus markers, 7 scratch markers, 2 off 1, 2 off 2 and 1 off 3.) We’ve managed to win 5 rubbers and been so close in plenty of other matches, but no chocolates yet.

We’re good, but they’ve been slightly better, but we’re still fighting to the end of the season to stay in Div1. The selectors are always looking out for our best in form players who are available to play. It’s awesome to see our depth improving with a lot of the younger guys in our club showing a lot of promise. We’ll get to those low handicaps that will make us more competitive, especially once our practice facilities improve and the driving range goes ahead. I can see Pennant  practice sessions at our range with the youth of the club and the stalwarts all working on their games. There’ll be no stopping “The Boys from Bushwood”.

Dear Members,

The Board of Directors, in consultation with the Greens & Match Subcommittee, has developed and adopted a Pace of Play Policy specific to Mornington Golf Club.

The policy applies to both members and visitors and clearly outlines the Board’s expectations regarding time taken to play, along with factors that may influence pace such as course conditions and field sizes.

The Temporary Local Rules have also been updated to reflect the penalties that may be applied for breaches of the Pace of Play Policy (slow play).

Dear Members,

Round 5 of the Tar Barrel Twilight 9’s competition was played on Friday 13 March.

With a fantastic 21 points, Michael Stephens was the Round winner.

After five rounds, Damon Anthony now leads the way one shot ahead of second place Melida Bennet-Hullin. With two rounds remaining, there is still an opportunity for the leaderboard to change!

The best four scores from the seven rounds will count toward the overall competition, with daily prizes also up for grabs each week.

Dear Members,

We are pleased to advise that a new PGA Professional, Sarka Seifertova has joined the coaching team at the Club and is now available for lesson bookings.

Originally from the Czech Republic, Sarka represented her country on the national junior team before rediscovering her passion for golf and turning professional at 27.

She spent 8 years based in New South Wales, Australia, where she completed her PGA traineeship in Sydney, before coaching internationally in Doha, Qatar at Education City Golf Club.

Sarka is passionate about growing the game, particularly encouraging more women to get into golf, while also enjoying working with junior golfers and players of all levels—from beginners to high-performance athletes.

Her coaching philosophy is to keep golf seriously simple, using a holistic approach that blends the technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects of the game. Every lesson is tailored to help players improve, gain confidence, and enjoy their golf.

Sarka will be available for lessons here at Mornington Golf Club on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
