The 2025 Sir George Tallis Trophy was decided on Saturday after three testing rounds – Par, Stableford, and Stroke – combined into a three-round Stableford total.
After round two, the leaderboard was finely poised, but as often happens, the pressure of the final round brought out the very best. Rising to the occasion, Davey Fenwick claimed victory by a single Stableford point, edging out Stephen Ling and Matt Standfield in a thrilling finish.
A renowned ball striker and a consistent contender, Davey has been runner-up on many occasions over the years. This time, however, he broke through in style to secure his first Board Event title – and what a fitting way to do it, by lifting the prestigious Sir George Tallis Trophy. Congratulations, Davey, on a fantastic and well-deserved win!
The trophy carries great significance in the history of our Club. Sir George Tallis, who served as President in 1947 and Patron in 1948, made a remarkable contribution to Mornington Golf Club. In 1946, he generously offered 120 acres of land on which our Club proudly sits today, enabling the move from the original nine-hole layout at Dava Lodge (corner of Benton’s Road and the Esplanade).
Each year, we honour his legacy by contesting this important event – a reminder of the vision and generosity that shaped Mornington Golf Club as we know it today.
