Mornington 1 headed to Flinders on Monday to play the final round of our round robin. Sitting on top of the ladder by one game only, it was always going to be a very tough day for Mornington playing Flinders on their home turf.

A later start to the day, we set out in brilliant sunshine & light winds – seemingly a perfect Flinders day. Whilst the fairways were in reasonable condition, the dry surrounds of the greens and the rough were hard and in parts cracked. Chipping and pitching was challenging as the hard ground was less than forgiving.

Mornington fought hard but it was not our day and we went down 3/2 to Flinders.

Connie Beckett made it look easy with a 6/4 win.

Robyn Tell also came home with a 2/1 win.

Kate Philip lost (1 down) on the 18th after neither player got more than 1 up over the 18.

Ange Stephens faced a tough competitor going down 6/5.

Marg Hancock also went down 3/2.

Our team this season finished in 2nd place to the National by one game.

We had some outstanding victories – beating Sorrento & the National both of whom have large squads from which to select their team each week.

Personally I am so proud of the team spirt and effort by all players throughout the season. We’re a small squad but everyone gave 100% to every match. We played as a team & improved massively on last year.

Many thanks to our caddies – Gill Lawrence, Fiona Wood Ingram, Barb McClintock, Ken Coombes, Kay Van der Net, Jan Seal, Maureen Conlon, Tracey Anthony & several players who doubled as caddies when they weren’t playing.

Our team – Marg Hancock, Annette Coombes, Connie Beckett, Ange Stephens, Robyn Tell, Lisa McConville Brain, Sue Pratt & Kate Philip.

Next year!

Kate Philip
